The CBCNU mission is to promote equity and improve spaces through the principles of new urbanism. By advocating for walkable, mixed-use neighborhoods and accessible public spaces, we aim to foster a sense of community and enhance the quality of life in urban areas. Our goal is to empower black communities to shape their own futures, and to ensure that all people have access to safe, affordable, and livable environments.
Our four programs consist of
1. Community Building, where we create unique spaces that honors culture while gathering architects, engineers, developers, planners, and municipal bodies. We provide a directory of minority firms and leaders and run a listserv to promote opportunities.
2. Speakers - In this program we elevate rising voices by connecting people to platforms including but not limited to books, articles, podcasts, interviews, conferences, workshops, and webinars.
3. Projects are where we increase the quality of community engagement. We Provide technical support to cities and neighborhoods.
4. Education is where we focus on engaging everyday people to be active participants in the placemaking process. We expose our community in innovative urban development processes that push their projects forward.
With the leadership of Dr. Atiya Martin, founder of Next Leadership Development, CBCNU and other black led organizations founded the Black Resilience Network, “a membership community of Black organizations and leaders supported by non-Black identifying people and organizations - who work each day to strengthen disaster and climate resilience, which requires advancing racial justice”. On the last day of Black History Month 2023, CBCNU and other black led organizations met with The Biden-Harris Administration to discuss “efforts to reinforce climate resilience”.
Currently, CBCNU along with several other partners are raising awareness and capital to Rebuild Tullahassee, Ok. Tullahassee, OK. was the first community created for Freedmen in the state of Oklahoma. It’s unique history as the oldest, historic all-Black town dates to 1850 when the Creek Nation built a boarding school.
With the support of Bois & Peters, LLC. Tullahassee, OK have established the first ever tax base in history. This will allow the town of Tullahassee to not just rely on the water bill income to sustain. In additional, Bois & Peters, LLC. assisted the town in securing funding of $1.1 Million dollars for water Infrastructure. The grant will help to provide the town with: 100 New Water Meters, 20 New Fire Hydrants, 30 New Cut Off Controls and Revitalize the Current Water Tower. Finally, funding for additional research.
We are now filling committee seats and leadership positions. For more information and/or to join our team, please email us at info@CBCNU.org!

Rebuild Tullahassee is a fundraising mechanism to raise capital to beautify and bring awareness to the new investment and development of Tullahassee OK.
The New Capital would be to: beautify and repair the streets. Create and Implement a street Mural on the main street, Raise Money to revitalize the Town Gym. The gym was once a destination for surrounding towns and Revenue resource for the Town.
We will Rename Streets after 10 Black Women who are from Tullahassee and/or had an impact to Tullahassee.
